Lexington Market, founded in 1782, is the
oldest continuously operating Market of its
type in the country. As the Market makes more
history in the new millennium, the mission and
focus remain the same: a large diverse public
marketplace serving the food needs of the
people of Baltimore and those who visit. This
marketplace is composed of small
independent businesses providing
opportunity, employment and a central magnet
for the mercantile interests in this area known
as Market Center.
Since its establishment, the Market has
provided a place where individual
entrepreneurs were given an opportunity to
start and grow a small business. By
expressing your interest in starting a business
here, you elect to participate in this ongoing
entrepreneurial tradition.
